Got me through my microbiology course

Let's say that I'll never be a microbiologist, but I needed to get through microbiology to stay in nursing school. Microbiology Demystified is getting me through my microbiology course. I take it to class so I can lookup anything I don't understand. This book is right on target so far. I've been pulling a B+. Now if they only had a demystified book for my other nursing courses I would be home free.

Buy this instead of the micro textbooks

This was a great find. I was talking a microbiology course this summer as part of my RN program, but the teacher was confusing and the textbook was too technical. I took a chance and got a hold of a copy of this book. They should have used this as the textbook. Everything is written clearly, perfectly at the level I needed. I have a friend who is taking micro in the fall and she is going to use this book instead of buying the text.

Non-Fiction, All-encompassing work on the real Dracula

If you were ever curious as to how and where the vampire stories began and how Bram Stoker conceived the idea for his book this is a must have. It depicts the events in the life of Vlad Teppes (Dracula), the son of Dracul and notorious leader of Transylvania and the bloodthirsty Eizabeth Bathory of a Hungarian aristrocratic family.

Bit of a let down....

I was disappointed with this book. I have read the authors' biography of Dracula, and found little new or worthwhile presented here. Moreover, the title is deceptive. Very little of this book is devoted to the history of vampires, and too much of it deals with modern popular culture. Given that the authors are serious scholars, I was hoping for a detailed look at popular culture roughly at the time of Vlad Tepes. I highly recommend the authors' other book, "Dracula: Prince of Many Faces," but find little merit in this volume. I think this book might have more appeal to a general audience. So, if you are looking for some basic background on the "real" Dracula (Vlad Tepes), and the basics of how he fits into folklore and popular culture, then this book may very well be for you. It is well written, and draws on the authors' considerable knowledge. It just was not what I expected or hoped for.

Lots and Lotsa Dracula Going On

This is one entertaining volume, one I can refer back to time and time again. The writers give a very matter-of-fact account of the life and times of Vlad Tepes, occasionally laced with a bit of wry humor, and relate the legends that have grown around ye olde impaler. From there, they take us through Bram Stoker and his background, and on to the celluloid versions of Dracula, all without pausing for breath...and happily so. My favorite bits are the various legends about Prince Vlad told from several points of view, and how they compare with each other. Very revealing, and always entertaining. Great fun for vampire afficionados and "serious" devotees alike.

Korea, by contrast, participated only reluctantly in military modernization, and adopted a limited program of reform only under foreign pressure – especially Japanese, but also American, Russian and Chinese – in the closing decades of the century. Such reforms as the country attempted nevertheless proved too little and too late, and were insufficient to prevent Korea becoming first a puppet state and then a colony of its maritime neighbor. The final part of the book comprises a detailed index for the five volumes of the series published thus far.

Great book with lots of interesting facts about Japanese and Korean troops. There is an abundance of Japanese coverage over that of the Koreans. There are lots of intriguing line drawings of what these troops would have looked like.

Very detailed book on Japanese, Korean, and Ainu armies throughout the latter half of the 19th century. Only complaint is the authors obvious confusion with some Korean names as he gives either Chinese (Ping Yang instead of Pyongyang) or odd spellings of places giving the correct name in parenthesis while listing the odd spelling as the correct way. But overall these are minor complaints as the information regarding the uniforms and weaponry is very accurate. Overall a wonderful purchase for any wargamer or historian interested in the numerous conflicts of Colonial Asia.

Great book

I read this book several years ago as a part of our small group study. Mr. Morris' story sounds pretty incredible at first -- almost hard for us to believe in our North American culture of "me" first. But since then, this book has had a dramatic impact on our life. We have started applying the principles Mr Morris teaches, and I can say there is great truth in them. I am now very appreciative of having read this. Now, I highly recommend it to others, and in fact have bought over 12 copies to give away.

I am thankful that Mr Morris would be transparent and share of his life with others.

Not a get rich quick book. A way of financial kingdom life.

My grama gave me this book to read. It changed my life on tithes and offerings. I'm living my dream today as a missionary and I have more than ever with less than ever. I'm able to give 100% more today than when I was on salary in USA. God is just too good and when we follow his plan, man o man, we're blessed! The author is very humble and great writing that won't put you to sleep. I'll be reading this book again soon.

For each case study, Fraker explores the community's development process and  goals and objectives as they relate to urban form, transportation, green space, energy, water and waste systems, and a social agenda. For each model, he looks at overall performance and lessons learned.
  
Later chapters compare the different strategies employed by the case-study communities and develop a comprehensive model of sustainability, looking specifically at how these lessons can be employed in the United States, with a focus on retrofitting existing communities. This whole-systems approach promises not only a smaller carbon footprint, but an enriched form of urban living.

I liked the demonstration of effective planning that combines Disney (if you can dream it you can do it) and Field of Dreams (build it and they will come) with pragmatic and technologically proven urban design. This book should be required reading for all in city and state government positions of planning as well as for boards of directors committed to improving the cities where their workers are employed. It offers hope in a lot of ways, whether about climate change, energy independence, urban renewal, employment solutions, or waste management.
