A life in God's plan

Written to her daughter upon marriage, Let Me Be A Women is full of short thoughts about the meaning of femininity and being secure in God's calling for you. The first time I had read this I was a young teen and found the book a little hard to understand as it's written is such short, personal thoughts. This summer a few women and I did a study with this book and each found it to be so full of truth (whether we wanted to agree with it or not) and it made me reflect upon my own life. God predestined me to be a woman. This is His plan for me and it's not inferior to men, but just a different job. This book helped me embrace the differences and begin embracing God's unique plan for my life!

Finally, 'order' is not mocked

As a young 'educated' Christian woman, I felt that what I believed to be biblical values are no longer seen as something to strive for in this modern age. I know that I had every means of pursuing and achieving what most women of this age strive for, but I chose not to. I never felt comfortable with it bc I never felt it was God's role for me in His perfect plan for creation. This book has been incredible in reinforcing in me the importance and JOY of biblical femininity. Role are NOT unequal, both sexes are equally precious in God's eyes, but God has made us DIFFERENT for a REASON. If this was not the case, why would God have needed to make us different at all? Why would Adam need a 'helper suitable for Him'? This book was amazing and uncompromising in the message that is sorely needed in the world today.

A Jewel - to "A Reader"

Personally, I do not think several previous reviews do the book the justice. I also know that I will NOT be able to explain the mystery and glory of the true "submission" (Ephesians 5:22), which this whole book is about. However, I'll try.

I don't believe Elizabeth meant:

1) "Woman for Man,... or Woman for God?" As this issue, I think one has to look over the whole book, the systematic way, instead of just one chapter or one sentence, just like how we should read and interpret God's Words. As for whom women belong to, the author made it quite clear in Chapter 2 & 3.

2) Also, I read this book many times, but don't personally get "its underlying assumption is that our purpose is simply to marry and reproduce and be good wives and mothers."(quote from the previous review). That was never my impression. Actually, my impression is that she's a woman of God, who loves God, pursues God, and submits her will to God. The author herself has been single for most of her life time.

3) If you read "Passion & Purity", you get to know her own love story with Jim Elliot, her first husband. Marriage has never been priority #1 in her life. Instead, it's God's will. She was willing to sacrifice her heart's deepest desire to God's will as they were dating... Isn't that exactly what God wants every of His followers to do, to imitate Jesus, "Not my will but Yours be done", to surrender, to submit...only then He can start His beautiful, mysterious, but magnificently glorious transforming work in us??

4) I'm single and I think it's always encouraging and reassuring to me whenever I pick it up to browse. I got it in 2002 and the book shines new insights to life as I grew as one of His followers, namely, a Christian. It reminds me of my ultimate priority, to love Him and obey His will, whatever that maybe. It emphasizes on what true freedom means, what deep and delicate respect to others (may it be husbands, or men in general or even women friends) means, what relationship, in essence, means...

5) However, if you are looking for a practical book on relationships, such as "Five Love Languages", etc. Yeah, this is not the one you want. However, remember that practical books address behaviors itself, just changing behaviors without addressing heart issues, generally, if not all the time, doesn't bring any lasting changes. Only when the heart truly repents and get humbled and realign its worship disorder in front of God, that's when the behavior changes come not only lasting in time, but naturally flowing from heart. This book is one that addresses our hearts problems....therefore, you can choose according to your own need...

OK, I write enough now... Hope this will help you decide... I've been reorganizing/slimming my bookshelf... wanted to donate this little book to the public library, but after browsing it again, decided to save it... Not many books "survive" my browsing again...

It is just a great one, I like it! While I was reading it I even thought that Picasso's vision on art is even more remarkable and astonishing then most of his paintings. Vivid metaphors, incredible ideas, some of them might be over the top at times, but still. For instance one my favorite is his gorgeous idea on drawing that it couldn't be finished, as soon as it finished - it becomes a dead thing. He says that picture keeps on changing (after artist put his signature) in eyes of spectator, that depends on his state of mind etc. Or the other one - there is a lack of poetry in art, says Picasso, poetry fades away from pictures. There are plenty of stuff like that, I bet you'll enjoy it. Although, in the end of the book you start to feel bored and being loaded with repeating stuff. For now I'm looking for some kind of book like that - a collection of best quotes from various other painters. Originally I'm not a native english-speaker, sorry if I had several mistakes.

"Everyone wants to understand art," reflects Picasso early in this book. "Why not try to understand the songs of a bird?" It is a playful observation, and one that can only emanate, we imagine, from the mind of an artist throughly engaged with the material on palette. Picasso's witty comparison suggests art's elusive form and implies a truism which the reader will discover to be a driving force throughout these pages: The audience to a work of art, like its creator, succeeds by embracing rather than understanding the rendered object.

It is the artist's full embrace which resolves itself into an all-encompassing vision, the very contradictions inherent in that panoramic view requiring for their complete rendition an array of angled planes that can only be created by the shattering of constructive materials. Hence arises that formal abstraction that so often mystifies those who seek understanding through simple assertion. How many individuals, indeed, feel that certain works by Picasso misrepresent rather than render the real? "We all know that Art is not truth," muses Picasso in acknowledgment of this confusion. "Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand."

The truth that is so realized, adds Picasso, is something different from the artist's original vision, for the truly rendered subject, in a paradox, evaporates. Picasso recalls an effort to paint the portraits of two people; by the time his work was done his subjects existed no longer. In the artist's words: "The `vision' of them gave me a preliminary emotion; then little by little their actual presences became blurred; they developed into a fiction and then disappeared altogether, or rather they were transformed into all kinds of problems. They are no longer two people, you see, but forms and colors: forms and colors that have taken on, meanwhile, the idea of two people and preserve the vibrations of their life." So Picasso's human beings become real by disappearing from view, just as Isabel Archer becomes fully realized by vanishing at the conclusion of Henry James's novel.

Art reveals truth by lying. Subjects become realized by disappearing. Any reader witness to this book's magical paradoxes, arising as they do from that hidden place where the creative flint strikes steel, can only view Picasso's observations as lending to our vision of artistic discourse a rich chiaroscuro. We cannot say this book will deepen the reader's understanding of art, unless by that understanding one means an embrace of the imaginative machine's secret pistons.

An engaging, if not wholly cohesive, account of Picasso's sayoing and writings about art, but more. The strength of the book comes when he speaks on art. The ancilliary issues that come up serve to round out the figure of Picasso more, but may not quite be the art treatise you're looking for.

About the Author
Raised as an Air Force Brat, I began daydreaming at an early age. I've been writing for my own fun since 5th grade but didn't get really serious about it until 2008. At that time I became sick and needed something to do while I recovered. My daughter said I should write down some of my wild stories. I wanted to leave my grandkids with something special, something of me. I had an idea that had buzzed in my head for a number of years and thought now was a good time to let it out. My hopes were for at least 100 pages. That same story is now 9 books of approx. 120,000 words each. I've racked up over 2 million words in this series alone. It is called The Year of The Change (YA, Sweet Romantic, Fantasy) The first book is in edit at this time. I took a short story, that I was fond of, to try out the deep waters of Amazon. It's called Two Days of a Dream (Sweet Romantic, Fantasy)I launched it in May of 2012 and as of this writing over 33,000 people have it on their Kindle or Cloud. I am Amazed how well its done and how kind everyone has been to me. I have the best readers around. Thank You!

Sweet easy read.

I want to start out by saying that all of the books I read start with 5 stars. I have a great respect for anyone who has written and published anything. It is no easy task.

So that being said let's begin with a review.

First of all, I LOVED the concept. It was a romance but I have yet to come across the idea this story is based around (Don't want to give away any spoilers ;). The charactes were very well written and I felt for both of them. I will admit that a few times I had to roll my eyes or give the female lead a "side eye" >;/ But for the most part I really did like them both. I felt the author did a wonderful job giving background and depth to them that was not excessive, added much to the story, and explained why they made choices they did.

The descriptions of the diffrent areas was also very well done and painted a wonderful picture.

Now all that being said I do have some constructive critisim. Starting with The military jargon.

I am the daughter of a Marine. And I found myself distracted more than once by certain inaccuracies. They are not soldiers, they do not wear fatigues, they would NEVER no matter HOW much they loved and respected him refer to their Captain as Cap. They just wouldn't.

I also had a really hard time with the way Kelly viewed almost every single man she interaccted with. It seemed like all of them were just walking around the base camp ogling her and making her feel uneasy. Were they all just supposed to be skeevy purvy marines? Maybe this was intentional and the author was trying to show Kelly's distrust of all males? Not sure but it didn't really work for me.

I was also kinda disappointed in the rather quick and rushed ending. I do feel there should have been at least an epilogue if not another chapter.

Those three items are the only reason why I gave this 3 stars instead of 4 or 5.

All in all this was a fun read and I will definantly keep an eye out for more from this writer. :)

Needs more research

While this was a nice sweet romance, it was very hard to get over the multitude of mistakes. If the author had made the characters ARMY instead of Marines, there would be no problem. With very little internet research, it is possible to find correct military jargon and for anyone who is knowledgeable whatsoever about the Marines this book is more aggravating in its mistakes than it was worth. Marines are NOT soldiers. They do not wear fatigues, they wear cammies. They do NOT say hoo-rah...they say oo-rah (yes, there is a difference). They do not call captains "cap". I could go on and on. I never write reviews and am generally fairly easy to please, especially with free books, but this had too many mistakes to overlook. It is definitely important to do your research if you are going to be writing about something that is widely known in the military community and is fairly simple to check.

I liked it!

I really enjoyed reading the book. It has an interesting concept, that a magic gown could take us to our perfect man, and I loved that. The story was well written, has some wonderful characters and I can't wait to read more about the gown. It disappeared right after Kelly went home. Will it be found? Will it match more couples?

muy buen libro

A pesar que se limita a unos pocos aceites esenciales, la parte historica y las referencias e instrucciones a los usos de los aceites juntamente con oraciones lo hacen un libro diferente al comun en esta materia.Me resulto muy interesante como recalca la necesidad de el trabajo espiritual en conjunto con la aplicacion de los aceites para un mayor efecto de sanacion, algo de lo que estoy muy de acuerdo.
